Creature from the Haunted Sea (1961) - Roger Corman takes a satirical dump on the monster genre in this breezy, blood-splattered comedy. A group of crooks tries to fake a sea monster legend to cover up their murders, only to find out that the monster is real and has a very literal appetite for gangsters. The creature itself looks like it was made of pipe cleaners and moss, which only adds to the anarchic, 'don't-give-a-damn' spirit of the film. It’s a fast-paced, cynical riot that mocks the very tropes it’s built on. Pure, DIY fun for the jaded cinephile.
