I Ship It (2014) – Life After A Bad Breakup

I Ship It (2014) manages to avoid most rom-con cliches. After a bad breakup, Zoe Smallman decides to take down her ex-boyfriend in a wizard rock battle of the bands The possibility that Zoe is attracted to Charlie is brought up very early in the story โ€” the fact that itโ€™s addressed quickly instead of being dragged out threw me for a loop, in a good way. Also, despite her scathing performance at the concert, the plan to โ€œruin Peter Hackettโ€ doesnโ€™t quite happen the way Zoe hopes. Iโ€™m more than okay with this choice because in real life, jerks donโ€™t always get their comeuppance, even when we try to give it to them. Itโ€™s that fact, and the openended-ness of the film, that safely maneuvers I Ship It away from the saccharine conclusion we might expect. Slightly disappointed they got together in the end, cause that’s a little cliche, I mean not every happy ending has to be a romantic one and also I was hoping this would be about two hurt friends going through their hard break ups together but pulling each other through it because friends are more important than relationships and you can care about someone without wanting to bang them. Not to give away the entire ending, but they donโ€™t go for the easy resolution, vouching instead to suggest that our Hufflepuffian protagonist did learn more about herself along the way, and thatโ€™s satisfying in itself. It doesnโ€™t feel like a cheap resolutionโ€ฆ although I will admit the last line of the film is a little cheesy and on the nose, but itโ€™s forgivable. Iโ€™ll let it slide. I Ship It is a fun, quick little movie that is well worth your time if youโ€™re a fan of any of the actors or if youโ€™re a part of the Potter fandom. Plus itโ€™s online for free โ€” you have no excuse not to check it out.

What a beautiful little short film. I’m blown away! Loved it all, the script, the wardrobe, backdrops, cinematography, the actor’s looks and the acting was AWESOME.
