Tether (2012)

Enter the mysterious world of Tether; a post-apocalyptic setting where mankind is slowly rebuilding from a virus that decimated the world a century ago. Now, mysterious cables are dropping from the sky, revealing an isolated world long forgotten.

Tether is a pilot for a science fiction web series that, quite frankly, deserves to be made. Created by Sam Gorski, David Lovett, and Niko Pueringer of Corridor Digital, Tether drops you into a post-apocalyptic world where humanity has been decimated by a viral pandemic. Suddenly, strange cables a.k.a. “tethers” drop from the sky to the earth. Where are they from, and their significance, are shrouded in mystery. Interestingly Tether is not a new idea or production, but was first conceived of two years ago and eventually resulted in Tether: First Snow, the events of which are referenced in the new video. As the duo themselves explain, the production of Tether as a concept, has ironically always been tethered to a commission, the latest apparently from Machinima. However, after numerous aborted attempts, Sam & Niko of Corridor Digital have decided to continue with Tether, funded personally but with the potential for a Kickstarted campaign in the future. The Corridor Digital team have produced a teaser video and pilot episode which effectively draws you into this intriguing new world with gorgeous cinematography, solid performances by the cast, and stunning visual effects. I love the fact that more and more original, high quality and interesting sci-fi content is being created for online viewing because we are certainly having a tough time finding it on network television!

Created by Sam Gorski, David Lovett, and Niko Pueringer. Starring: Ron Menzel, Rachel Weber, Steven Luke Schuetzle

Sync (2012)

Sync (2012) Brilliant Short Film

Charlie Cooper is a special agent of the future able to transfer his consciousness to bio-mechanical bodies at will. But when a computer virus corrupts his system, he must face one of his greatest challenges yet: mortality.

I must say that Sync is the best web-series I have found on the Internet, trumping things like VGHS. Its writing is a perfect mix of action, thriller, and romance, and the plot is singularly unique. Add to that great actors, smart directors, and skilled VFX artists, and you get an amazing, must-see show. Great Action Scenes throughout the Film. Each moment left you Hanging on the edge of your seat wondering what was going to happen next. overall I believe the produced did a great job all the way down to the VFX. I would strongly suggest that those under 16 shouldn’t be allowed to watch it do to the graphic Gun Violence, Drinking and smoking, and Language. The script perfectly balances action, humor, romance, and character development.

Directed by Sam Gorski, Niko Pueringer
Starring: Tanner Thomason, Jai Koutrae, Carlos Ciurlizza

The Chase (2012)

The Chase (2012) – Four nasty ladies lead police on high speed pursuit

A crazy, irresistible, intense, spectacular car chase between police and four unlikely accomplices that weave in and out of traffic with the entire police squad and a few choppers on their tail. Crazy chicks + crazy car chase = loads of fun.

>This short film is very well animated and is essentially little more than excessive car chase action as if we were watching a video game. When it cuts to the women in particular the animation is not quite as good and the voice work is a bit too obvious but it does work. The wider shots are really well animated and seem very close to reality apart from how excessive they are. The destruction and the carefree way it is caused is actually quite fun to watch and I enjoyed it because of how slick and hollow it was – not in spite of it. The conclusion is a nice little punch-line which fits the fleeting and fun nature of the short. Not a great film nor one that will stick in the mind but a fun experience that does well to capture the appeal and aesthetics of video gaming (appropriately the film is directed by Philippe Gamer).

Philippe Gamer produced and directed this film that looks like a cinematic sequence from a high-end console game. Made in Paris-based VFX and game animation studio Space Patrol. Animago AWARD prize winner.

Project Arbiter (2014)

1943. Thousands of feet above Northern Europe a small plane carries a skeleton crew of the Allies best, including special operative captain Joseph Colburn. His handler, major Thomas Hardy does a final review of the mission’s grim intel: infiltrate a mysterious villa on the Polish border and uncover its secrets. Colburn emerges donning a prototype suit, which can temporarily render its user invisible. As the plane’s bay doors howl open Colburn begins to put on the skull-faced helmet when the plane is rocked by an anti-aircraft shell. Rapidly losing air pressure and altitude, now there’s no question… This is a one-way mission.

I love retro-futurism. Like Hellboy and a slew of Steampunk related movies, merging current day (or future) technology with the resources available in times past creates fascinating alternative-reality story lines. These types of films don’t have many limitations so long as the baseline historical context (in this case WWII) remains intact. Sure, it requires a deeper suspension of disbelief, but if one achieves that, a good story of this kind can be just as interesting as movies projecting from current day technology into the opposite direction (into the future). You know, like Blade Runner or Star Trek in their time. Excellent cinematography, acting, plot and use of CGI.

Directed by Michael Chance. Starring: Alexis Cassar, Jake Lyall, Tim Coyne

Controller (2013)

Controller (2013) – A girl takes control of her boyfriend

“They say when I leave, the world will turn upside down.” Whoa. A girl that can control everything, perpetrates her own rescue by taking control of her boyfriend! Here’s another must watch new science fiction-esque short film from writer/director Saman Kesh called Controller, the perfect film to kick off your week. This kind of has an Akira meets Tron (maybe) vibe to it, with a huge office fight scene in the middle of a sweet love story. I thought this was an amazing short when I first watched it, I love the music and all the action kicks ass, plus it has an intriguing concept with an adorable love story.

Saman Kesh is a filmmaker that murders robots, abuses musicians, bribes judges for awards, tricks celebrities into becoming involved with his absurd goals, and creates worlds that he wishes he could live in. It’s safe to say: Saman’s going to be a fine leader of the new world.

Directed by Saman Kesh.
With Kent Chu, Susan Hsu, Luka Lu.

Market Hours (2014)

Lexus Short Films series

Randall spends his days imagining the vibrant inner lives of various vendors at the multicultural urban market where he works; none more so than Angela, an angel with her own pastry shop. But Randall’s inattention to his work has led to a string of thefts and soon threatens to cost him his job. A chance encounter with a beautiful starlet and her lapdog provides Randall not only an opportunity to break the ice with Angela, but a chance to prove his worth to everyone at the market – including himself.

Lexus and The Weinstein Company have once again come together in the spirit of innovation to produce two new short films for their second annual “Life is Amazing” Lexus Short Films series. Two rising filmmakers (Jon Goldman, Satsuki Okawa with script writer Ken Ochiai) have been mentored through the creative process of interpreting “Life is Amazing,” by acclaimed filmmakers soon to be announced. Harvey Weinstein and Lexus identified the two up-and-coming storytellers for this once-in-a lifetime experience. We launched the Lexus Short Films Series in 2013 with incredible, young filmmakers watching them develop their stories, skill and talent culminating into a special screening during the Cannes Film Festival. We’re honored to be working with Lexus again for a second year to find the next great, innovative storytellers to bring their own fresh take to the short film format.

Jon Goldman is a graduate of Stanford University with a B.A. in English Literature and Creative Writing. His short film “Diplomacy,” a wry take on the power of interpreters in top-level negotiations between the United States and Iran, played over two dozen film festivals worldwide including Abu Dhabi, South by Southwest and Tokyo Short Shorts, winning jury and audience awards in Paris, Aspen, New York, Switzerland and Mexico. He acts not only as director but also as script writer in Europe and America. “Life is amazing. But ya, that’s pretty broad. I felt like I had creative license to really tell any kind of story that’s not dark, that wouldn’t quite be amazing, but I felt like I had freedoms to do anything that had kind of a magical or uplifting quality, so I gravitate in the short film form towards a love story, I felt like that kind of worked well in the 10-15 minute space. And ya, I was inspired by the location, I wanted to tell a story in that grand central market” – Jon Goldman

The Splinter Cell (2014)

The Splinter Cell (2014) – Fanfilm based on a Video-game

The Splinter Cell is a live-action short set in the past that follows the early years of the franchise lead as he becomes the titular hero. Before the game stories, before the modern times, and before Third Echelon: There was only a man. Sam Fisher. Official Splinter Cell movie is apparently coming out next year, but fans did their job earlier.

Atomic Productions 2014. ‘The Splinter Cell’ is a non-profit fanfilm created by the producers out of their love and appreciation for the source material. It is created entirely as a labor of love and not intended for sale or commercial, for-profit distribution. All rights to Splinter Cell franchise belong to Tom Clancy and Ubisoft. Their original work can be seen on YouTube channel (YT/ben3308). They split their time between tense dramas and farcical parodies, so this ‘action’ film was a refreshing test of Atomic Productions crew’s versatility. The weapon that Sam Fisher uses in this short is actually the Mk.23 SOCOM with LAM and silencer, which bears a slight resemblance to the USP. This is the same weapon Sam uses in his default loadout in Splinter Cell: Conviction. Splinter Cell came from Third Echelon being a splinter cell/group within the NSA.

Directed by Ben Adams and Andrew Adams.
Starring: John Redlinger, Todd Gable and Jared Smith

Six Shooter (2004)

Six Shooter (2004) – Harsh Irish comedy about a sad train journey

Six Shooter (2004) – black and bloody Irish comedy about a sad train journey where an older man, whose wife has died that morning, encounters a strange and possibly psychotic young oddball….

The film earned several awards, including the Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. McDonagh is a brilliant story teller and fully deserves his Tony nominations and his Olivier Award for Best Play (The Pillowman). McDonagh (formerly a playwright, here making his film debut) is a master craftsman, able to play several levels at the same time. “Six Shooter” is shocking, heartbreaking and very funny, often simultaneously. The story, in a nutshell, revolves around four people, each suffering a very recent death in their families. As they each deal with the loss in very different ways, they collide with each other, sometimes with words, sometimes with more. It’s also fantastic to see the raw talent of Ruaidhri Conroy back on screen and with none other than Brendan Gleeson, the master! The cast is uniformly excellent, especially Brendan Gleeson as the sad-eyed protagonist. McDonagh’s pitch-perfect writing – while not approaching the near-apocalyptic absurdity of plays like “The Lieutenant of Inishmore”.

Directed by Martin McDonagh. Starring: Brendan Gleeson, Rúaidhrí Conroy, David Wilmot, Aisling O’Sullivan

Black Cobra (1987): Big bad Fred Williamson strikes again

https://freemoviescinema.com/filmz/bcbr80svhsrp

What a great action film. It has everything, including an awesome score.

Watch Black Cobra because detective Robert Malone is a maverick. He is an uncompromising policeman when he guns down several criminals during a hostage standoff. Next, he finds himself protecting a female photographer who has witnessed a murder. She is sought by a moronic gang of motorcyclists who have been murdering and raping at will. Malone finds them, confronts them, and takes care of (police) business.

Watch Black Cobra (1987) or be forever silent!

Black Cobra is low low budget flick that provided enjoyable escapism for 90 minutes and kept me entertained. This is the type of film that you really have to accept on it’s own terms or just leave alone. Ripping it apart would be easy but all the things that one could criticize are the exact same things that make Black Cobra the entertaining low budget flick that it is.

Directed by Stelvio Massi
Starring Fred Williamson, Eva Grimaldi, Bruno Bilotta
