They Are The Last (2013)

They Are The Last (2013) – Lighthouse Watchman Documentary

Leonardo Da Costa is a lighthouse keeper stationed in Cabo Polonio, a remote cape in a stretch of Uruguayan coastline rich in shipwrecks and sunken treasures. Cabo Polonio’s light has been guiding ships since 1881, and Da Costa is the latest in a long line of watchmen who have operated the tower with care and attention. He leads an unassuming life, the tranquility of the almost intact landscape keeping him company. Serenity and silence merge with the daily tasks and chores he carries out. Da Costa represents a rare profession that still survives in a few countries. Take some time to appreciate a gentle and enlightening way of life, for once it is gone, it will be missed.

There is no music and no narration. Just the sounds of the daily routine of one of the last lighthouse keepers in the world!

The Death and Return of Superman (2011)

The Death and Return of Superman (2011) – Great FIlm about DC Comics Insider’s Chronicle

Literal, insider version what happened in 1992 when DC Comics decided to kill, then resurrect, Superman. Chronicle writer Max Landis made this monologue about “The Death and Return of Superman” storyline from DC Comics over parody-like sketches.

Awesomely funny take on the death and return of superman with Matt Bennett and Liz Gillies, both from the victorious TV show, which made me surprised when I saw them, weird. But it is very good though even if it may offend some DC fans with the negativity of the comic and DC itself. The writing is top notch and there are some really famous cast members in there, I think I saw Simon Pegg. I think it really should have more notice because of the star cast and writing. I think you will like it if you are familiar with the story liner or not because it is a laugh. I found this on YouTube and just thought it was a good video but then the cast surprised me and I found it here with one review so I just decided to be second because I felt like would be a good idea, if you haven’t seen it and are reading this then go to YouTube and search it.

Max Landis was born on August 3, 1985 in Los Angeles County, California, USA. He is a writer and actor, known for Chronicle (2012), The Death and Return of Superman (2011) and Me Him Her (2015).

Directed by Max Landis.
Starring: Max Landis, Kit Willesee, Yuri Lowenthal, Elijah Wood, Ron Howard, Simon Pegg

The Magic Capital of the World (2014)

The Magic Capital of the World (2014) – Most Magical place in the USA

Colon, Michigan, is a sleepy, one-streetlight town somewhere between Detroit and Chicago that proudly bills itself as “The Magic Capital of the World.” (The name comes from a pair of nearby lakes shaped like the punctuation mark.) It’s home to around 1,000 residents and holds at least 30 dead magicians in its single small graveyard. The Colon High School mascot is a giant bunny rabbit. Though it lacks the soaring Gothic cathedrals of Hogwarts, it just might be the most magical place in the United States.

For the past 80 years, Colon has hosted Abbott’s Magic Get Together, an annual gathering of several hundred magicians from all over the world who convene for a week of shows, lectures, and trick-jamming. At night, tipsy magicians mingle in bars and restaurants along Colon’s single block of downtown, practicing their craft on passersby. The Get Together is less a conference and more a “family reunion,” as nearly every person I spoke to there referred to it.

But like any good family reunion, the Get Together has its share of drama. Infighting over the town’s magical heritage has made it harder for aging magicians to cooperate in attracting new members to their community. And modern, everyday technology — not to mention the proliferation of the internet — has made it harder for magic to seem… well, magical. Still, when you throw hundreds of born-and-bred entertainers into this mecca of illusions, you’re bound to get a party.

Sean (2014)

Sean (2014) – Amazing Documentary

In the latest installment of Mainline’s renowned Tribute series, director Ryan Reichenfeld returns to his hometown of Lake Havasu City to tell the story of Arizona teenager Sean. A small-town skate enthusiast with dreams of making it big, he wakes up every morning at 3:30 AM to flip burgers at Jack In The Box restaurant, earning just $60 a day. In this special short film, Reichenfeld shows us the alienating and ugly – as well as beautiful and touching – parts of the world surrounding Sean. It is a raw and compassionate portrait of the difficulties of growing up, and captures a way of life that is rarely seen on this side of the lens. Mainline’s AG Rojas caught up with Reichenfeld to discuss exactly what inspired him about Sean and his unassuming way of life.

Ryan Reichenfeld is name you should get used to hearing. The man’s ambition might exceed his grasp, but by God, he has one hell of a grasp on what he’s doing. After Justin Timberlake, Adidas and RAC came calling, a lot of people started tuning into his way of thinking. Ryan Reichenfeld is known for his work on Justin Timberlake: TKO (2013), Cannibal Suburbia (2007) and Things You Don’t Tell… (2006).

I’ve always been attracted to eccentric, ballsy, sensitive, lone wolf, weirdos. Growing up, I didn’t care about anything but skateboarding. If it didn’t have to do with skateboarding I didn’t want to hear about it, waste my time with it, because it was probably lame. My favorite skateboarder, and part role model, is Heath Kirchart. He’s the human incarnation of “speak softly and carry a big stick” or “actions speak louder than words”. As I expanded my horizons after I got injured I discovered Ernest Hemingway. The Sun Also Rises and A Moveable Feast spoke to me, the way the characters carried themselves through life and how they dealt with problems made me feel less alone. After I got hurt skateboarding and couldn’t continue a career with it I was taken about by a slew of directors for different reasons. Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick, P.T. Anderson, Spike Jonze, Jonathan Glazer. They all seemed to focus on honesty in a different ways, and the way they stylized their honesty is what interested me. – Ryan Reichenfeld

The Splinter Cell (2014)

The Splinter Cell (2014) – Fanfilm based on a Video-game

The Splinter Cell is a live-action short set in the past that follows the early years of the franchise lead as he becomes the titular hero. Before the game stories, before the modern times, and before Third Echelon: There was only a man. Sam Fisher. Official Splinter Cell movie is apparently coming out next year, but fans did their job earlier.

Atomic Productions 2014. ‘The Splinter Cell’ is a non-profit fanfilm created by the producers out of their love and appreciation for the source material. It is created entirely as a labor of love and not intended for sale or commercial, for-profit distribution. All rights to Splinter Cell franchise belong to Tom Clancy and Ubisoft. Their original work can be seen on YouTube channel (YT/ben3308). They split their time between tense dramas and farcical parodies, so this ‘action’ film was a refreshing test of Atomic Productions crew’s versatility. The weapon that Sam Fisher uses in this short is actually the Mk.23 SOCOM with LAM and silencer, which bears a slight resemblance to the USP. This is the same weapon Sam uses in his default loadout in Splinter Cell: Conviction. Splinter Cell came from Third Echelon being a splinter cell/group within the NSA.

Directed by Ben Adams and Andrew Adams.
Starring: John Redlinger, Todd Gable and Jared Smith

The Fox Of Bloody Women Island (2014)

The Fox Of Bloody Women Island (2014) – Women fishing with their underwear

This source of curiosity took us to Nordland – a mystical Viking land of changing light, deep fjords and mountainous archipelagos. We arrived in the small town of Kjerringøy, where had we heard there was a man who built traditional boats. His name was Ulf, his house had the red trim around it, and he’ll meet us at the end of the drive in the freezing rain. This was all we knew. Could this mans belief in his work and connection to his environment be the root of his happiness? Shot entirely during the twilight hours of Norway’s northern Arctic, this is his story. Kjerringøy is a small community nestled in the Arctic Circle between steep Norwegian cliffs and by a sea inlet teeming with boats—a memento of the Vikings’ heyday. The town is also known as “bloody women island”: a name, says Ulf Mikalsen, the Norwegian boat builder profiled in the short The Fox of the Bloody Woman Island, that is “linked to how women waved off the men leaving for winter fishing with their underwear.”

The Landing (2013)

The Landing (2013) – Something Extraordinary Landed on Australian Farm

A man returns to the Midwestern farm of his childhood on a desperate mission to unearth the horrifying truth of what landed there in the summer of 1960. Production filmed at the left over barn from the Kent farm set built for the production of Superman Returns (2006) in Breeza, New South Wales, Australia. THE LANDING is a Drama/Sci Fi short film produced by Perception Pictures as part of the late QPIX White Heat initiative.

Filmed in 2013 in Australia over the course of eight days on the Arri Alexa camera for approximately seventy thousand US dollars, The Landing was inspired, Tanner told dreadcentral.com, “From a dream I had where I was unearthing a buried spaceship in the middle of farmland. I became obsessed with the idea of the suppression of a UFO landing by the farmers on the land which it came down on, opposed to a government cover-up. It was a great seed to build a story around and figure out when and how it got there and whose perspective it would be told from. I was inspired by a lot of the great paranoia sci-fi of the 50’s and unabashedly Spielberg, Kubrick, and Terrence Malick.”

Directed by Josh Tanner. Starring: Henry Nixon, David Roberts, Tom Usher

Alone (2013)

Alone (2013) – Alone in The World Short Film!

Years after the world ended and the human race perished; this is the only man left standing. How did he survive? What caused the outbreak? We don’t know. No one does. This short film gives you an inside look on what the only man left alive does on a day-to-day basis, what he does to survive, kill time, and keep himself sane.

The film is a monologue, centring around the nameless ‘last man on Earth‘ contemplating his isolation and existence as he goes about his day-to-day activities; listening to old voice mails, eating canned food and searching for new things to eat in abandoned houses (that just so happen to have keys hidden in obvious places). – The Whispering Critic

Sticky (2014)

Sticky (2014) – A meditation on uniqueness and the persistence of life

The astonishing true story of the Lord Howe Island stick insects. ‘Sticky’ is a short animated documentary telling the astonishing true story of the stick insects from Lord Howe Island. Why these particular insects? Because their story is quite simply amazing. They evolved on Lord Howe Island, a tiny speck in the sea between Australia and New Zealand, and exist nowhere else. They’re strikingly different to other stick insects – they are robust, fast, jet black and huge – islanders used to call them tree lobsters. In 1918 rats were accidentally introduced to Lord Howe and quickly munched their way through the entire stick insect population. Within a few years the insects were extinct. Or were they? There were some tantalising clues to suggest that they may, against all the odds, have colonised the most remote, inhospitable place you can imagine. . . Ball’s Pyramid is the tallest sea stack in the world, as high as a skyscraper, as thin as a blade, rising almost vertically from the sea 25km off Lord Howe Island. It looks exactly like a super-villain’s .
