The Killer Shrews

Our Take

The Killer Shrews (1959) - This is a masterclass in making the most of a goddamn shoestring budget and some very confused dogs in rugs. It’s a claustrophobic, booze-soaked siege movie where a group of people is trapped on an island by mutated, hyper-aggressive shrews with a taste for human flesh. The atmosphere is thick with the smell of cheap gin and impending doom. It’s raw, it’s sweaty, and it’s surprisingly tense for a film where the monsters are essentially wearing sweaters. A true grit-and-grime classic of the drive-in era.
