Foolish Wives

Our Take

Foolish Wives (1922) - Erich von Stroheim was the 'Man You Love to Hate,' and here he is at his most decadent and dangerous. This is a film about the rotting aristocracy of Monte Carlo, filled with con men, counterfeiters, and total moral bankruptcy. Stroheim spent a studio-breaking fortune to recreate every crooked detail of a world he despised. It’s a lavish, greasy descent into the gutter of human desire, where everyone is a predator and every smile is a lie. It is deeply cynical, brilliantly cruel, and completely unforgettable.
