The Circus

Our Take

The Circus (1928) - Chaplin’s most desperate, high-wire act. While his personal life was a goddamn train wreck during production, he turned that chaos into a comedy of errors that is as tight as a noose. The scene with the lion’s cage is a masterclass in organic tension—real teeth, real fear, and a man whose only weapon is a nervous smile. It’s a bittersweet, frantic ride through the sawdust and shadows of the big top. If you don't feel the sting of that final shot, you’ve got a hole where your heart should be.
