Metropolis (1927) - Fritz Lang was either a prophet or a goddamn lunatic. He built a city of gears and madness that makes modern sci-fi look like a cheap puppet show. This is the birth of the Machine-Man, the cold, steel mother of C-3PO. If you think cinema started with CGI green-screens, this film will rip your head off and spit in the socket. Pure, industrial fever dream.
