Running the Gammatar (2013)

Plot:

Running the Gammatar is a lovely story about a young couple trying to negotiate a relationship while their city is being terrorized by a giant fire-breathing monster. It’s like rom-com meets Japanese monster movie, except this monster is uglier than any version of Godzilla, and his name is Gammatar. Joe Kramer’s short film is a comedy about a group of self-centered 20-somethings trying to have the time of their life in a city under constant attack from a giant, Godzilla/Gojira look-a-like Japanese monster.

Running the Gammatar (2013) Review:

“Pure fun” – Ain’t It Cool News
“Wry, funny [and] perceptive” – Kuriositas
“[A] comedy in the best indie-style: fast dialogue, loud colors, and some hip indie pop-songs on the soundtrack.” – Die Zeit Online

Artificial Paradise, Inc. (2010)

Sterile subterranean world of tomorrow

Artificial Paradise, Inc is a futuristic/chaotic 3-D animation anticipating a future where a major corporation has developed an unique software, based on organic virtual reality, which holds all the lost memories of humankind. A user connects to this database of the forgotten… what is he searching for?

Visually impressive CG film that is reminiscent of Lucas’ THX1138 and the sterile and heavily computerized subterranean world, where sex is forbidden, mankind lives in vast underground cities and free will is outlawed by means of mandatory medication that controls human emotion.

Jean-Paul Frenay is a Creative Director/ Film Director and multidisciplinary Visual Artist living in Belgium. Born in Siegen, he spent his youth in Germany before moving to Brussels to begin his studies. His particular vision and the quality of his films made him graduate with honors from the InRaCi Film School. After a specialization in visual effects, he started his career as a flame artist where he developed his skills which gave him the confidence to start directing. He took his first steps directing commercials and quickly became known for his ability to mix many different techniques, including live action, stop motion animation, CGI, miniatures, motion design, video mapping and photographic artworks.

Project Arbiter (2014)

1943. Thousands of feet above Northern Europe a small plane carries a skeleton crew of the Allies best, including special operative captain Joseph Colburn. His handler, major Thomas Hardy does a final review of the mission’s grim intel: infiltrate a mysterious villa on the Polish border and uncover its secrets. Colburn emerges donning a prototype suit, which can temporarily render its user invisible. As the plane’s bay doors howl open Colburn begins to put on the skull-faced helmet when the plane is rocked by an anti-aircraft shell. Rapidly losing air pressure and altitude, now there’s no question… This is a one-way mission.

I love retro-futurism. Like Hellboy and a slew of Steampunk related movies, merging current day (or future) technology with the resources available in times past creates fascinating alternative-reality story lines. These types of films don’t have many limitations so long as the baseline historical context (in this case WWII) remains intact. Sure, it requires a deeper suspension of disbelief, but if one achieves that, a good story of this kind can be just as interesting as movies projecting from current day technology into the opposite direction (into the future). You know, like Blade Runner or Star Trek in their time. Excellent cinematography, acting, plot and use of CGI.

Directed by Michael Chance. Starring: Alexis Cassar, Jake Lyall, Tim Coyne

Phoenix 9 (2014)

Phoenix 9 (2014) – Post Nuclear War Survival Drama

2039 A.D. – After a global, thermo-nuclear war has wiped out most of humanity, a tight-knit group of survivors discovers a secret that changes everything they thought about their world, and tempts them to turn against each other.

Phoenix 9 marks the debut for the German team of Amir Reichart (director & editor) and Peer Gopfrich (writer & producer). The short is a proof-of-concept based on a feature screenplay by Peer Gopfrich. This is definitely one that I could see being fleshed out to a major motion picture.

Amir Reichart was born as Amir Salama Reichart. He is a director and editor, known for Phoenix 9 (2014), Warrior (2014) and Waffenbrüder (2010).

Directed by Amir Reichart.

Wanderers (2014)

Beautiful short film Wanderers by Erik Wernquist and narration by Carl Sagan is a vision of humanity’s expansion into the Solar System, based on scientific ideas and concepts of what our future in space might look like, if it ever happens. The locations depicted in the film are digital recreations of actual places in the Solar System, built from real photos and map data where available. Without any apparent story, other than what you may fill in by yourself, the idea with the film is primarily to show a glimpse of the fantastic and beautiful nature that surrounds us on our neighboring worlds – and above all, how it might appear to us if we were there.

Ever since I started out in computer graphics, character animation has always been my focus and is what I consider my primary skill. But due to a large variety in working environments and the fact that I am self taught in computer graphics, I have a rather wide range of knowledge and experience in many, if not all, aspects of the field. My background in theatre has left me with a passion for writing and directing, which is why I on several occasions have taken breaks from animation to work with live action projects.Erik Wernquist

THIS FILM WAS MADE WITH USE OF PHOTOS AND TEXTURES FROM: NASA/JPL, NASA/Goddard Space Flight Center Scientific Visualization Studio, ESA, John Van Vliet, Björn Jonsson

Time Trap (2014)

Time Trap (2014) – Astronaut Comedy

Hillarious comedy about a godforsaken astronaut who discovers a time machine on a post-apocalyptic Earth. It sounds silly but it really might be the funniest thing you can do with time travel. It’s a wonderfully fun short film, one that puts a clever and funny spin on time travel tropes.

The Landing (2013)

The Landing (2013) – Something Extraordinary Landed on Australian Farm

A man returns to the Midwestern farm of his childhood on a desperate mission to unearth the horrifying truth of what landed there in the summer of 1960. Production filmed at the left over barn from the Kent farm set built for the production of Superman Returns (2006) in Breeza, New South Wales, Australia. THE LANDING is a Drama/Sci Fi short film produced by Perception Pictures as part of the late QPIX White Heat initiative.

Filmed in 2013 in Australia over the course of eight days on the Arri Alexa camera for approximately seventy thousand US dollars, The Landing was inspired, Tanner told dreadcentral.com, “From a dream I had where I was unearthing a buried spaceship in the middle of farmland. I became obsessed with the idea of the suppression of a UFO landing by the farmers on the land which it came down on, opposed to a government cover-up. It was a great seed to build a story around and figure out when and how it got there and whose perspective it would be told from. I was inspired by a lot of the great paranoia sci-fi of the 50’s and unabashedly Spielberg, Kubrick, and Terrence Malick.”

Directed by Josh Tanner. Starring: Henry Nixon, David Roberts, Tom Usher

2084 (2016)

2084 (2016) – Big Brother is Watching You in Dystopian Future!

This amazing film by Taz Goldstein is based upon a dystopian novel 1984 by English author George Orwell. The novel is set in Airstrip One (formerly known as Great Britain), a province of the superstate Oceania in a world of perpetual war, omnipresent government surveillance and public manipulation, dictated by a political system euphemistically named English Socialism (or Ingsoc in the government’s invented language, Newspeak) under the control of a privileged elite of the Inner Party, that persecutes individualism and independent thinking as “thoughtcrime.” The tyranny is epitomised by Big Brother, the Party leader who enjoys an intense cult of personality but who may not even exist. The Party “seeks power entirely for its own sake. It is not interested in the good of others; it is interested solely in power. It was awarded a place on both lists of Modern Library 100 Best Novels, reaching number 13 on the editor’s list, and 6 on the readers’ list.

2084 is an experimental sci-fi/comedy was filmed in director Taz Goldstein’s living room. Its plot is placed in the distant future where society is slowly being crushed into conformity by an all-powerful computer. One individual is surprisingly ignorant to the malevolent machine’s relentless conditioning.

Taz Goldstein is an award-winning director and producer, and co-founder of Chaos Theory Entertainment. He directed for Universal Pictures, Walt Disney Pictures, Fox Television Studios, and Sony Pictures, as well as numerous corporate and commercial clients including Adobe, Microsoft, Nissan, Fuji, and The Cheesecake Factory. His work has been featured on the big screen, the small screen, and the really small screen. He is also writing for Hand Held Hollywood, a mobile filmmaking blog launched in 2009. official page
