Python (2000)

A Kill The Celebrities Movie!

Python is a film that is very reminiscent of those classic B horror films of the 1950’s. It’s a film that you know from the start won’t win any awards for acting, directing or writing, but you find yourself unable to turn it off. You can’t blame anyone but yourself for watching this film for the simple fact, you knew what to expect before you even began watching it. The star of the film is a HUGE python, genetically engineered to be almost indestructible, the characters are never fully developed, but overall, the film is fun to watch and if you can call this film a guilty pleasure.

Directed by: Richard Clabaugh
Starring: Frayne Rosanoff, Robert Englund, Casper Van Dien

Dawn Of The Dead (1978)

George A Romero was the Walt Disney of zombie movies!

Following the events of Night of the Living Dead (1968), we follow the exploits of four survivors of the expanding zombie apocalypse as they take refuge in an abandoned shopping mall following a horrific SWAT evacuation of an apartment complex. Taking stock of their surroundings, they arm themselves, lock down the mall, and destroy the zombies inside so they can eke out a living–at least for a while. Tensions begin to build as months go on, and they come to realize that they’ve fallen prey to consumerism. Soon afterward, they have even heavier problems to worry about, as a large gang of bikers discovers the mall and invades it, ruining the survivors’ best-laid plans and forcing them to fight off both lethal bandits and flesh-eating zombies.

The Nurse (1997)

Great suspense-filled gore-free entertainment!

When her father kills himself and his family after being named in an embezzlement scandal, nurse Laura Harriman vows revenge on the man responsible. She soon gets her chance when his accuser suffers a stroke that leaves him paralyzed and mute – the perfect victim. After becoming his private nurse, the “angel of death” sets out on a psychotic killing spree that will complete her descent into madness and destroy an innocent family…one by one.

We’ve have seen it all before. A person, often a female, gets angry about something that stands in her way of success or plain satisfaction. We saw that in for example “The Temp”, “The Secretary”, “Daddy’s Girl” and “Fatal Attraction” by naming a few. This time it’s a nurse! Even if I’ve seen everything before I think the movie is both exciting and fun to watch. Not a masterpiece, but also far from the opposite. An entertaining little movie

Starring: Lisa Zane, Janet Gunn, John Stockwell

Ants on the Plane aka Destination: Infestation (2007)

So very, very bad film, it was actually funny!

It is a rip-off of the ‘Snake On the Plane’ action flick starred by Samuel L. Jackson. Whilst Samuel has to fight off snakes, in this film, the passengers and the flight crews have to ‘battle’ the ants that somehow managed to infest the airplane.

I could understand if it was a deliberate mock-up of the airplane disaster genre. But, alas, this movie was a serious attempt at suspense and horror; it actually took itself seriously.

Directed by G. Mendeluk
Starring: Antonio Sabato Jr., Jessalyn Gilsig and Serge Houde

Jameson (2018)

Hurry because the darkness is coming!

A man’s peaceful life is disrupted when three dangerous travelers lay siege to his secluded cabin in the woods.

Impecable craft. A single man in his cabin. Three strangers from wood. Confrontation. And the sacrifice for keeping the peace. The dialogue between owner and young man, the house itself, detail by detail, the end of war and the last scene are pieces of this short film who has the science and gift and inspiration to be more than a good horror but reflection of deep emotions and desires of the viewer.

Director: John Humber
Starring: Brad Carter, James Grixoni, Tony Doupe

Lucy’s Tale (2018)

Between mean girls, her first romance, and budding hormones, Lucy begins to realize that she’s not like the other teenagers in her class in this coming-of-age horror.

It is familiar. Maybe, too familiar. Is it a virtue ? Is it a mistake ? Each viewer has his option. It is a simple film about bullying and first love and mother-daughter relation. And one of horrors significant for the good exploration of teenager life. Between “Carrie” and “Splicer”, I do not know define it more as good job.

The Blue Door (2017)

A British horror short film!

A home care nurse comes to realize that the old woman she cares for is not what she seems.

The first gift is the presence and the beautiful performance of Gemma Whelan. I know, too much GoT…. But she does a splendid performance. The second present – the tatoo of old lady. The minimalist, too. And the latch, off course. But the most significant detail – it is a real well crafted horror. Without easy solutions or pretextes for thrill. Its realism, the steps of storytelling, the gestures, the door – reminding old fairy tales- , the end are real good points. So, many gifts. Not only for the fans of genre.

Directed by Paul Taylor.
Starring Janie Booth, Annie McGrath, Gemma Whelan.

Alien: Alone (2019)

Watch and Stream Alien: Alone (2019) Film, The best out of all the Alien 40th short stories!

Watch and Stream Alien: Alone (2019) Film. Hope, an abandoned crew member aboard the derelict chemical hauler Otranto, has spent a year trying to keep her ship and herself alive as both slowly fall apart. After discovering hidden cargo, she risks it all to power up the broken ship in search of human life.

This short story by Noah Miller is for me the best out of all the Alien 40th short stories. Unlike the other stories it focuses more on the “philosophical” themes brought on the Alien franchise rather than the horror. I thought the music fit the story well and the setting makes you really feel for the main character…an android named Hope who was left completely alone on an empty station. I feel this story could bring a new direction to the franchise, in fact it could easily be a TV series with several episodes. This is a must watch for people who are sensible to the story of David (aka fans of Prometheus and Covenant). Thanks to Noah and his team for bringing this to life, he took a risk with it and I loved it!tchevrierdechoudens
