Eldritch Code (2017)

Great adaptiation of a graphic novel with technology, ancient evil and apocalyptic future!

A dedicated IT-guy must stop a computer virus from spreading, unaware about the cosmic horrors he is about to release. It has a very interesting plot idea that summoning Cthulu would be buried in software. The storyline and ‘internal dialogue’ of the main character help build the tension with excellent visual effects and a powerful ending.

A Lovecraftian short film created by Ivan Radovic, based on a story by Glen Cadigan & Chee from Cthulhu Tales (publish by BOOM! Studios).

Directed by: Ivan Radovic
Writen by: Glen Cadigan (graphic novel) and Ivan Radovic (screenplay)
Starring: Lisa Bearpark, Martin Hendrikse, Mark Robins

Spoiler (2011)

Coroner’s life in the world of undead!

The worldwide infection changed the world for good. One coroner isn’t just a collector of the dead anymore. Now he comes to make sure you’re actually dead. Or to help you get there.

This was incredibly well done. From the acting, plot, music, and emotional storyline, it was simply astounding in my humble opinion. When the viewers, myself included of course, can actually feel the moral and emotional turmoil emitting from the main character, that is a feat unto itself. Just wow … this was excellent, and yes the entire story would make a great series or movie. Pre-infection, infection-origin, and all the events would be well received by the viewers, I am 100% sure. Kudos to the entire production team, and thank you for sharing. – RealHandEngraver

Split Second (1992) – Ultimate hidden gem

Split Second with Rutger Hauer: A Monster Movie Masterpiece of Magnificent Proportions!

“Split Second” is like a wild ride on a futuristic rollercoaster with Rutger Hauer as your charming and slightly unhinged conductor. With its blend of sci-fi, action, and horror, this movie is a thrilling ride from start to finish.
Sure, some might say that the special effects haven’t aged all that well, but honestly, who needs fancy CGI when you’ve got Rutger Hauer wielding a giant harpoon gun? Plus, the cheesy one-liners are so bad they’re good, like a perfectly cooked piece of bacon – you just can’t help but enjoy it.
All in all, “Split Second” is a campy, over-the-top, and thoroughly entertaining flick that will have you cheering for Rutger Hauer’s grizzled detective as he battles a monstrous creature in the flooded streets of London. It’s a true gem of ’90s B-movie goodness that’s sure to leave you with a grin on your face and a sense of satisfaction in your heart. So grab some popcorn and buckle up – it’s time to take a ride with Rutger Hauer!

Plot:

In a flooded future London, Detective Harley Stone hunts a serial killer who murdered his partner, and has haunted him ever since. He soon discovers what he is hunting might not be human.

Directed by: Tony Maylam
Starring: Rutger Hauer, Kim Cattrall, Alastair Duncan

Alien Predator (2018) – When Xenomorph meets Ultimated Hunter

“Alien Predator” is another ripoff classic by Asylum!

1h 27min | Action, Adventure, Horror | 2018 (USA)

When a black ops team is sent to investigate the crash of an unidentified aircraft, they soon find themselves being hunted by the former occupants.

Like others, I accidentally bought this. Embarrassingly, I kept watching this expecting it to get better. I was in the military and the first scene had me immediately scratching my head with their radio talk. Everyone in the unit had a different version of a uniform…the banter between the soldiers was cliche’d garbage delivered by horrible actors…it was mind numbing.

The “Sharknado” sphere of bad

Finally…what really was bewildering was the smoke special effect where you could almost literally see the smoke machine pouring out smoke and the actors never once questioning “Where the heck is all of this smoke coming from? Why is it coming out of that bush?”

This is in the “Sharknado” sphere of bad, but that movie it was intentional and funny;this one was not funny…and probably the worst movie I’ve ever seen.

Directed by: Jared Cohn
Starring: Xavi Israel, Dutch Hofstetter, Alex West

Tarrare mythology – “Hungry Joe” (2020)

“Hungry Joe” is a British horror short film!

This Brittish short horror movie tells the contemporary story (loosely based on the true story of Tarrare) of a single mother who struggles to bond with her apathetic child. At its core, “Hungry Joe” explores themes of addiction, isolation, and the horrors of the human condition.

Tarrare, a figure known for his insatiable appetite and grotesque behaviors

An atypical horror. Because, not the fear is purpose but the portrait of a dramatic fall. A single mother and her special son. And the words of the other, across years , about his huge apetite. Admirable for many reasons, from the acting to photography and storytelling!

Directors: Samuel Dawe, Paul Holbrook
Stars: Laura Bayston, Andrew Greaves, George Morgan

A real good thriller film – “Miner’s Mountain” (2019)

Everything is amazing – the acting, the camera, the lighting, omg even the final credits!

A Sheriff comes under fire when two S.B.I. Agents question his involvement in an unsolved murder that shares distinct similarities with a recent homicide.

It is more than a real good short horror. The cinematography, the acting, the music are just great. The story is a fine , precise embroidery about guilt, family, memories, death and unknown. Short, a smart crafted film.

Wendigo inspired creatures

The creatures resemble wendigo, not exactly in appearance, but in origins and abilities, the miners were closed off in the mountain, so if they were trapped instead of crushed then the miners may have resorted to cannibalism, which would have made the wendigo.

Written, Produced and Directed by Bennett Pellington
Starring: Henry Bazemore Jr., Anthony Reynolds, Myke Holmes, Julie Ivey

Extraterrestrial (2014)

Really fun adventure sci-fi horror like in late 80’s!

Extraterrestrial is a sci-fi flick that depicts a group of young folks who take to a cabin in the woods for a small holiday as a mysterious fire ball streaks across the night skies and crashes.
Very intense and contains a lot of breath taking and jaw dropping moments. Another reason i liked it was because it ended greatly. The ending to this film is very different to other films. It did not leave you saying “what the heck”. On a minuscule budget, The Vicious Brothers truly have come through with a frightening and atmospheric sci-fi horror movie. Once the aliens start popping up, there is a true feeling of paranoia and desperation in that log cabin as everyone tries to survive the night.

Excellent performances from all of the young leads and a truly daring ending make this a must see. Technical quality and cinematography were respectable, this seems much easier to get right with today’s digital filming technology than a decade ago. There is a bit of a B movie atmosphere later on, but at least it wasn’t like I was watching a video game – something that happens all too often with major productions these days.

Starring Brittany Allen, Freddie Stroma, Jesse Moss

Night of the Living Dead (1968)

The best original inventive and first zombie/ghoul movie!

Night of the Living Dead is a 1968 American independent horror film written, directed, photographed and edited by George A. Romero, co-written by John Russo, and starring Duane Jones and Judith O’Dea.

This movie is the absolute blueprint of what a true horror movie should be. It is my favorite movie it touches on so many different enduring issues they face humankind. It also displays irony that everyone is not knowledgeable of this movie will be shocked by the events in it. I have met the cast of night of living dead and they are fantastic people.

Night of the Living Dead was restored by the Museum of Modern Art and The Film Foundation, with funding provided by the George Lucas Family Foundation

Mega Crocodile (2019)

Shipwreck survivors wash ashore an island infested with oversized crocodiles!

Mega Crocodile is another CGI driven monster movie. Unfortunately, the effects here are all bad. The crocodiles actually look like somebody animated those rubber ones you get at the dollar store. The man-eating plants are positively cartoonish. It looks like something you would have seen om basic cable around the turn of the millennium.

Mega Crocodile is actually entertaining in an odd sort of way. With subtitles that are stilted and full of typos, it’s one of those films that’s just so messed up that it’s fun. Mega Crocodile was produced by Youku, which seems to be a cross between Netflix and YouTube. And they’ve put it up for free on their YouTube channel.

Virus (1999)

A mixture of Alien, Predator and Event Horizon!

When the crew of an American tugboat boards an abandoned Russian research vessel, the alien life regards them as a virus which must be destroyed. When a typhoon cripples their boat, the crew sails into the eye of the storm, where they discover a high-tech Russian communications and research vessel adrift. Only one Russian crew member is still alive, raving about “intelligent lightning.” They soon discover that an alien life form has taken over the ship’s computers and is churning out mechanical warriors. With their own boat destroyed, the crew must battle the creature as the ship reenters the storm.

Trivia:

In 1999, prolific French video game developer Cryo (also known as Cryo Interactive Entertainment) released on PlayStation “Virus: It is Aware”, their action/horror third person shooter tie-in video game that was very loosely based on this movie.

Hi-tech sci-fi/horror movie at sea!

It is a decent sci-fi horror/thriller, much better Than Its Reputation!
I don’t see why people hate this movie?
Good-action-packed-horror-flick-worth-watching
Sci-fi, Alien type thriller with a lot of tense!
Great popcorn movie! Underrated gem with some amazing effects!

The Box (2017)

A legendary cult classic that will never get old!

In a strange, dark box lives a group of box-headed elderly humanoid creatures with roots instead of legs. Most of these creatures are sunken into a catatonic sleep, unaware of anything outside their hermetic, sealed-off world.

But one of them emerges from the crowd, stunned into consciousness. Young and growing, the creature starts to cause a joyful ruckus, but struggles against the disapproval and rancor of the rest of his box-dwellers. But then the youngster begins to fight back, looking for a way outside the box but coming against its most oppressive forces yet.

Writer/director/animator Dusan Kastelic’s short animation is a surreal yet exuberant allegory about the pleasures and perils of non-conformity, being an individual and pushing through obstacles to a new level of consciousness.

Director: Dusan Kastelic

Don’t Open Your Eyes (2018)

All kinds of spooky!

When an apathetic home hospice nurse learns he shares a sinister connection with the mysterious old woman in his care, it forces him to confront a darkness he never could have imagined.

>Compared to a lot of blood and thunder, teen horror movies, this one came as a much welcomed, breath of fresh air. It’s much more in the style of ‘Hereditary’, rather than many of it’s inferior ilk and the actress who played the elderly (dying lady) was rather excellent. Can’t understand the negative reviews for this one and deserves a much more considered, careful attention.

Rebooted (2019)

A love letter to old school movie magic!

A stop-motion animated skeleton takes drastic measures when he learns the film for which he was created is being rebooted without him.

Rebooted has launched to international audiences on YouTube, having already been featured at Austin Film Festival, Flickerfest (Best Australian Animated Short Film) and nominated for a Best Short Film AACTA Award 2019.

It’s eclectic mix of characters include a Ray Harryhausen inspired stop motion skeleton as its lead, a character depicted in traditional 2D animation, an animatronic Velociraptor, an homage to the Creature from the Black Lagoon and a kitsch mid 90’s liquid metal CGI man.

Zombie Apocalypse (2011): A Heart-Pounding Journey of Survival and Sacrifice

Not a bad Zombie movie for lovers of the genre!

Three small groups of survivors of a zombie plague join forces to reach the ferry boat to a sanctuary that they are not sure exists on Catalina Island. Along their journey, they are hunted down by hordes of zombies and only a few of them survive.

In a landscape oversaturated with zombie flicks, “Zombie Apocalypse (2011)” stands tall as a pulse-pounding testament to the genre’s enduring appeal. Director John Doe delivers a tour de force that not only reanimates the undead trope but also injects it with fresh energy, making for an adrenaline-fueled roller-coaster ride that will leave you breathless.

Doe’s deft direction and keen understanding of tension-building are evident from the opening scene, setting an ominous tone that rarely relents throughout the film’s runtime. The palpable sense of dread, combined with heart-stopping action sequences, ensures that you’re never allowed to catch your breath.

What sets “Zombie Apocalypse” apart is its ensemble cast, led by the charismatic and intense performances of [Lead Actor] and [Lead Actress]. Their chemistry crackles on screen, adding a layer of emotional depth rarely seen in a genre often associated with gratuitous gore. The characters’ struggles, sacrifices, and triumphs become the beating heart of this apocalyptic tale.

The film’s special effects team deserves commendation for their outstanding work. The zombies are truly a sight to behold, striking the perfect balance between grotesque and horrifyingly realistic. The makeup and prosthetics are so convincing that you’ll find yourself questioning if the undead may actually walk among us.

“Zombie Apocalypse” also shines in its world-building. The desolate, post-apocalyptic landscapes are hauntingly beautiful, providing a stark backdrop for the harrowing events that unfold. The attention to detail in crafting this nightmarish world is nothing short of astonishing.

The pacing is relentless, driving the narrative forward with an unrelenting force. Each encounter with the undead is meticulously choreographed, resulting in edge-of-your-seat action that leaves you both thrilled and terrified. The film’s crescendo of suspense and heart-stopping moments is a testament to Doe’s masterful storytelling.

Furthermore, the score, composed by [Composer], is a triumph in itself. It expertly underscores the tension and amplifies the emotional impact of the characters’ struggles, seamlessly weaving into the fabric of the film.

“Zombie Apocalypse (2011)” is a standout in the crowded zombie genre, offering a gritty, emotional, and unapologetically intense experience. Doe’s direction, combined with stellar performances and exceptional production values, make this film an absolute must-see for both die-hard fans of the genre and those seeking an unforgettable cinematic experience.
