Monsters (2015)

Well done, pretty tense and interesting thriller!

Jenn lives in an underground bunker with her family, protected from the monsters that now ravage the world. This is the day that she goes outside…

I am completely blown away by what was fit into these 12 1/2 minutes. I thought one thing, then another. And then another! Good acting. Beautifully shot! I enjoyed this very very much.

Hi all, this is Steve, the director of “Monsters.” Just wanted to say a big thank you to the community here for all your love and support of our film, it really means a lot to us. And thank you to Screamfest, both for showcasing us at your festival and for featuring us here.

Transmission (2017)

Welcome To Britannia. Together We Stand Alone. Leonard is being held in a bunker and Dr. Sam visits him, spewing largess like breathing. James Hyland as Dr. Sam is the key to this short film’s success. With only three players in the short Hyland does the bulk of the talking and as the auditor to Michael Shon’s Leonard. Filmmakers Varun Raman and Tom Hancock wrote Transmission at the height of the refugee crisis, which was followed in turn by Brexit and other geo-political kerfuffles and fuck-ups.

Häxan (1922): Witchcraft Unveiled

A hybrid of documentary and fiction, silent film Häxan explores the history of witchcraft, demonology and satanism.

The striking visuals would in themselves be sufficient reason to watch “Häxan”, but in addition it is a thought-provoking feature that combines dark humor, some occasional chilling moments, and perceptive commentary on human nature. It’s an unusual package and an unusual feature, and there aren’t many films quite like it.

One of the weirdest and most bizarre movies of all time!

More commonly known as “Witchcraft Through the Ages”, this is definitely one of the most bizarre, visually arresting movies of all time, even nearly 80 years later. It starts out as a rather dry documentary, detailing medieval superstitions and folklore while showing ancient woodcarvings of witches and demons in various forms.

>This film gives us a thoughtful look at the horrifying potential of fear, ignorance and superstition. I have to say I admire the courage Benjamin Christensen showed in making this film which not only must have offended the sensibilities of the time for the obvious reasons but also because it dared to champion reason over superstition as a way of explaining things which we do not fully understand. This film resonates with its message that those who judged others unjust may not have been just themselves.

This version is Swedish Film Institute print!

Directed by Benjamin Christensen
Cinematography by Johan Ankerstjerne
Music composed by Ludwig van Beethoven, Matti Bye, Art Zoyd, Daniel Humair, Barði Jóhannsson, Launy Grøndahl, Emil Reesen
Starring Benjamin Christensen, Elisabeth Christensen, Maren Pedersen

Karkass Karts (2015)

Karkass Karts (2015) – A Family Affair Made in Tennessee

When the Birch brothers inherit a failing funeral home from their decaying father, they must resort to unsavory means to save the family legacy. After their father commits suicide, leaving them in charge of their family’s destitute funeral home, the Birch brothers, Elder (Noam Tomaschoff), Jake (Collin Medford), and Box (Ian Boullion), attempt to grant his last request to be buried in the church cemetery, but are stonewalled by Pastor Mike (Kyle Minshew). When the creditors start calling, it seems like the Birch Family Funeral House might go under for good, until an off-hand joke by the town Sheriff (Stephanie Farcas) gives them a dark idea that might offer a chance to save the family business AND get their revenge on Pastor Mike.

Karkass Karts (2015) – A dark southern comedy

Director, Ben Nelson, and Writer, Craig Clayton’s home of Knoxville, Tennessee serves as the fictional setting of Patternaster Falls and the 10-day, Summertime shoot was made possible by the generosity of local businesses and townsfolk, proving once again that southern hospitality is unrivaled. Featuring historic Tennessee locations, the film takes Southern Gothic to a whole new level.

Made by a cast and crew of (mostly) NYU students and recent graduates who worked for little more than some southern cooking and the chance to put their educations to work, Karkass Karts is a passion project on all fronts.

Ben Nelson is a filmmaker based in New York City and a recent NYU graduate. His made his first film, a remake of The Wizard of Oz, at the age of eight. The film, which saw a limited release both in his parents’ bedroom and in his first grade classroom, was widely praised by audiences. Since then his craft has only improved, as evidenced by the several “likes” his recent films have received on Facebook. In 2013, Ben directed “A Mail Tale: The Untrolled Story,” an urban musical fairy tale, which won first place at the Tisch 48-hour film festival. His junior-level film, Bowl Me, won the audience award at the 2013 New Visions and Voices Festival. His most recent film, “Karkass Karts,” is a southern dark comedy inspired by his former years in Dixie.

Director: Ben Nelson
Writers: Craig Clayton, Ben Nelson
Stars: Noam Tomaschoff, Collin Medford, Ian Bouillion

Selfie from Hell (2015)

Plot:

Selfie from Hell tells a story of a woman (Meelah Adams) who takes a selfie of herself and notices a man standing in the background. When she turns no one is there but with the next selfie he appears to be even closer.

Selfie from Hell Review:

Selfie from Hell is possibly the best horror movie of 2015. The film is the work of German student Meelah Adams, who is working on her bachelor’s thesis, which is about the effects of viral videos. This film is part of her studies. The film was made in true DIY fashion, with Adams, and her friend, Erdal Ceylan. Shot over three days, and with post-production lasting five, it’s pretty impressive. It was released on August 9, 2015 and broke all short film records with approx. 17 million views. Especially social media sharing helped this short film reach this huge audience. In fact, there’s no doubt that the real number of views is much higher since it’s been shared in several versions across the world wide web. Now Ceylan and Adams are getting the chance to do a feature film version produced by Industry Works Studios.

Cast and Crew

Written and Directed by: Erdal Ceylan
Stars: Meelah Adams, Sascha Hoff

Komodo (1999)

Plot:

Komodo is set during the 70’s when some Komodo Dragon eggs were dumped on the beach of a North Carolina island. Somehow, the baby Komodos survived, and twenty years later they have grown up and taken over the island for themselves. Young Patrick has lost his parents and his dog to the lizards, but didn’t see them himself, which has left him traumatized. Now, with his therapist Victoria, who doesn’t believe the Dragons are real, he is returning to the island to confront his fears. Soon people are being chomped, and Patrick and Victoria must fight for their lives if they ever hope to make it back home.

Komodo (1999) Review:

This intelligent CREATURE film has plenty of thrills, chills and scares to please. The only thing that’s missing is a runaway budget with nothing to show.. Scenes leading up to the killer Komodo attacks are paced in such a way that the viewer can’t help but think that Komodos are around every corner. For all of you out there that want to get your Creature kicks, see this flick as soon as it hits you theater. Kudos to all the filmmakers. Great first time direction by Lantieri. Can’t wait to see what he’s doing next ! Great sets, cinematography, music and editing ! All around SOLID!

Alligator (1980)

Plot:

Alligator is flushed down the toilet as a baby and grows into a gargantuan monster by eating the corpses of laboratory animals who have undergone dubious hormone experiments, thus providing all the ecological and social subtext that one could possibly wish for, even if one doesn’t normally go for films about giant alligators eating people left, right, and center–which is the inevitable and tragic result of Ramon’s decision that the outside world looks rather more interesting than the sewers….

Alligator (1980) review and Trivia:

Joe Dante was offered to direct the film. The first victim’s name is Edward Norton. 🙂
Alligator is a 1980 American horror film, directed by Lewis Teague with a screenplay by John Sayles. It stars Robert Forster, Robin Riker, and Michael V. Gazzo.
