Jackie Chan Presents: Amnesia (2015)

Martial-arts legend Jackie Chan presents this pulse-pounding update to his own classic thriller!

An amnesiac is framed for a murder and races against time to clear his name before the killers and the cops can track him down.

Plot: Finding himself at a murder scene, bike courier Li Ziwei tries to escape, but the culprits force him off a bridge. The amnesia from his head injuries means he can’t recognize the faces of his enemies, who have framed him for the crime. Now, carrying the parcel that’s his only clue, and with the help of sassy hitchhiker Tong Xin, Li Ziwei must outrun killers and cops while racing to clear his name of the mysterious murder.

There are numerous reasons why Amnesia is disappointing. The acting is awkward, the fight work is poorly shot and choppily choreograhed, and the film completely dissolves in the third act to the point of incoherent slop. Yet, the most disappointing element of the who thing was that it didn’t have to be disappointing. The concept is kind of fun as a young messenger witnesses a murder, suffers from a brain injury that prevents him from recognizing faces, and then is forced into a corporate conspiracy that sends him racing off into off beat locations. This should have been a HK action home run. Particularly with Jackie Chan on board as a producer.

Film has embedded ENGLISH subtitles.
