Brendan Schaub: The Gringo Papi (2022)

A Hilarious Dive into the Comedy Ring

Buckle up, folks! Brendan Schaub has unleashed “The Gringo Papi,” and foshow if laughter were a contact sport, this special would be a nuckout. Schaub, the Gringo Papi himself, takes the stage with the comedic swagger of a man who’s been hit in the head a few times—wait, that’s because he has. But fear not, this isn’t a TED Talk on CTE; it’s a riotous comedy special.

In his unmistakable style, Schaub dives into the absurdities of life, love, and everything in between. Picture this: a mix of testosterone-fueled anecdoughts and self-deprecating humor, served with a side of contagious laughter. The Gringo Papi holds nothing back, giving us an unfiltered look into the mind of a former MMA fighter turned stand-up sensation. Think of it as an inside look at the man behind the mic, or as Schaub would say, ‘Welcome to my brain—bring a helmet.’

The special’s brilliance lies in Schaub’s ability to turn ordinary moments into comedic gawld. Whether he’s sharing his insights on relationships, the challenges of fatherhood, or the perils of being a ‘manly man’ in today’s world, Schaub’s humor is as sharp as his left hook. “The Gringo Papi” isn’t just a comedy special; it’s a front-row ticket to the Brendan Schaub experience, where laughter is the ultimate knockout blow.

Dave Chappelle – 8:46 (2020)

Dave Chappelle Speaks Out on George Floyd’s Death, Blasts Candace Owens in Searing Netflix Special!

During his set, Chappelle addressed the killing of George Floyd and the protests that have sprung up across the country in response. Throughout his time on stage, Chappelle returned to 8 minutes and 46 seconds, the amount of time former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin knelt on Floyd’s neck during his attempted arrest, subsequently killing him. “I can’t get that number out of my head because it was my time of birth on my birth certificate,” Chappelle said.

I was born at 8:46 in the morning and they killed this nigga in 8 minutes and 46 seconds.

The special was filmed on June 6 in Yellow Springs, Ohio, with coronavirus-era social distancing guidelines in place for attendees, including face masks and temperature checks.

>It’s hard to figure out what to say about George Floyd, so I’m not going to say it yet,” Chappelle opens, flipping through a black notebook, later adding, “I got to tell you, this is like the first concert in North American since all this s— happened, so like it or not, it’s history. It’s going to be in the books.

Sam Morril: I Got This (2020)

Amazingly written and flawlessly executed stand up comedy!

Shot in the iconic Village Underground in the West Village, Sam Morril’s latest special feels representative of New York club comedy: offensive, and tightly written. The special’s title, for one, references an abortion joke. In an aside for a bit about school shootings, Morril gives his own succinct review. “Some of these jokes, the content you’re not going to like, but structurally they’re going to be really solid.” You may have heard Morril in Joker, where he performed as himself at the comedy club, before the Joker’s set.

I Got This marks Morril’s second hour-long stand-up special — his debut was Amy Schumer Presents Sam Morril: Positive Influence in 2018.

> Thanks for all the kind words from those who have watched. If you like this, send it to a friend.

Sam Morril is from New York City, New York. In 2011, Sam won The Laughing Skull Comedy Festival in Atlanta and was named one of Comedy Central’s “Comics to Watch.” More recently, Sam has been seen on Comedy Central’s Adam Devine’s House Party, “Conan” on on TBS twice, and is a regular on Fox News’ “Red Eye.” He has also been on Last Comic Standing (where he was eliminated in the first round), @Midnight, and Inside Amy Schumer. Sam recorded his debut album on Comedy Central records, which went to #1 on iTunes and made numerous top 10 lists. He also released his very own half-hour Comedy Central special. Sam is regularly seen at The Comedy Cellar in New York City, and some other clubs. He even pops into those “pretentious indy hipster” shows, and is regularly on the road hitting new cities.

Mark Normand: Out To Lunch (2020)

In Mark’s third comedy hour he covers it all: Drinking, anxiety, gays, naughty words, trans, race and the ladies. I don’t know if he’s right about any of it but he is completely out to lunch.

Mark Normand is an American stand-up comedian and actor. He began performing stand-up in his hometown New Orleans in 2006. He has performed across the United States and abroad and has appeared on Conan, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

This is one of the strongest specials I’ve seen. he has some serious hard hitters that take rough topics and make a killer joke out of it. He has 6 to 7 seven jokes on the same topics yet never seems to overstay on a topic. He has some well threaded topics that would be hack in another comedians set but builds them into actually making a point on them.
Seriously stellar work. This blows so many specials on Netflix out of the water it’s an absolute outrage that he isn’t on there.

I was blown away that none of the streaming services would buy this! It’s insane. Maybe he was telling the truth when he said they don’t need another straight white male, I honestly can’t see any other reason.
Probably a combination of: it’s not new material for him, none of it is really groundbreaking subject matter that they would take a big chance on, his following is relatively small so there’s a lot of competition at that level, he’s not super tight with a lot of big comedians so he doesn’t get that boost (I think Ari Shafir benefits a lot from this, though I do like him), he doesn’t have any sort of big project coming up to generate a lot of buzz. And yes, there is definitely a degree of “oh he’s just another acerbic straight white male, we have plenty of those on the lineup already, let’s try somebody with a different audience demo,” without recognizing the canyons of difference between many of those acerbic straight white guys.
To be clear: I think this special was incredible, I’m just spitballing potential explanations for why Netflix didn’t go for it.

Joe Rogan: Live From The Belly Of The Beast (2001)

Direct political ranting with real-life humor, tribute to Sam Kinison and older George Carlin work!

I didn’t really think much of Joe Rogan until I saw this video. He’s awesome. The video feels like your drinking beer with a funny friend and he’s just ranting. He’s got very interesting things to say and this is worth checking out. You will laugh till you wet yourself. Also check out the cameo by the Austin cable access personality Alex Jones.

>I need a copy and wonder if anyone has a good suggestion where to find it in Austin, Tx. Joe Rogan belongs on stage by himself but it is cool to see him living the good life now all over Hollywood. Someone let me know if they found the DVD for sale in Austin or where to find it period. I highly suggest this DVD to all that have a sense of humor and are not faint of heart. The man you know from Fear Factor or as an announcer has way more talent then you know….checkout the DVD and see for yourself. I hope he comes back to Austin sometime to Cap City Comedy Club if that is still the name…it has been a long time.
