Paths of Hate (2010)

Plot:

Paths of Hate is a short tale about the demons that slumber deep in the human soul and have the power to push people into the abyss of blind hate, fury and rage.

Paths of Hate (2010) Review:

An extended action sequence, Paths of Hate is 10 minutes long, and introduces a surreal turn of events that audiences either love or hate. The film drops you right into a gorgeous aerial dogfight, and attempts to show how the singleminded focus of the warrior perverts the intrinsic humanity of both combatants, creating something darker and more evil. However the depiction of this transformation is almost over-the-top in the way it is presented.

The ultimate combat is set in a grey clouded sky. Two planes cut through the winter air, fly in breathtaking high-speed, reckless maneuvers above the snow- covered mountains and icy lakes. Pilot-fighters, driven by blind fury, chase each other and thereby write cryptic messages of madness into the firmament. The eyes of the terrible rivals reflect unquestioning hate. They are ready to cross all limits of aggression. On their way into the abyss they transform into inhuman and distorted creatures that finally become part of the history of hate.

According to the director the dimension of fighting is irrelevant, as well as the ideology behind it. It does not matter whether two people are involved or millions. What remains are only scars.

“Paths of Hate” is a dynamic tale about hatered which is the indispensable element of human nature. Damian Nenow has created a film that matches Visual attractiveness of American action cinema and European reflexive character of author cinema. The audience is being drawn into the middle of a fight, of an unknown origins. The finale of it is a bitter author’s comment.

Shave It (2012)

Plot:

Short film Shave It puts us in the wilderness of the forests where giant bulldozers are tearing apart the woods. There is a monkey that accidentally finds a shaving machine and decides to use it. Spontaneously disguised as a human being, he moves out to the city and starts a career. After a stunning success in business, he understands the need of gaining political power. Not too long after, he becomes the president. Now he is ready to make a change.

Short film Shave It (2012) Review:

“For us, [the film is] an ironic reflection about how nature adapts to the human invasion,” state the Maldonado and Tereso who observed monkeys’ movement and behavior in zoos and the Amazonian jungle, along with actors, to bring the charming animated character to life.

For sound design, the duo found inspiration in the Lira, an Amazonian bird which imitates the sounds it hears in the environment “with such a lack of criticism or judgment” that it imitates the other birds singing.

“Regarding aesthetics, we wanted to choose the way of maximum expression possible, trying to get over the technique,” state the film makers. “In a free mix of 3D and 2D animation, saturated and live colors, we found a harmony that reflects the nature’s freedom.”

Destino (2003)

Plot:

Amazing Short Film Destino (2003) tells the story of Chronos, the personification of time and the inability to realize his desire to love for a mortal. The scenes blend a series of surreal paintings of Dali with dancing and metamorphosis. The target production began in 1945, 58 years before its completion and was a collaboration between Walt Disney and the Spanish surrealist painter, Salvador Dalí. Salvador Dali and Walt Disney Destiny was produced by Dali and John Hench for 8 months between 1945 and 1946.

Amazing Short Film Destino – Subconcious Labyrinth of Life

Dali, at the time, Hench described as a “ghostly figure” who knew better than Dali or the secrets of the Disney film. For some time, the project remained a secret. The work of painter Salvador Dali was to prepare a six-minute sequence combining animation with live dancers and special effects for a movie in the same format of “Fantasia.” Dali in the studio working on The Disney characters are fighting against time, the giant sundial that emerges from the great stone face of Jupiter and that determines the fate of all human novels. Dalí and Hench were creating a new animation technique, the cinematic equivalent of “paranoid critique” of Dali. Method inspired by the work of Freud on the subconscious and the inclusion of hidden and double images. Dalí said: “Entertainment highlights the art, its possibilities are endless.” The plot of the film was described by. Dalí as “A magical display of the problem of life in the labyrinth of time.” Walt Disney said it was “A simple story about a young girl in search of true love.”

Starring: Jennifer Esposito, Dora Luz.

Big Buck Bunny (2008)

Plot:

Short film Big Buck Bunny begins with Buck Bunny awakening in his rabbit hole. Inexplicably, there are three adorable little critters that begin annoying Buck–throwing stuff at him and ripping the wings off butterflies simply because Buck likes butterflies! These guys are serious jerks and you just hope that Buck will kick their butts. When he does react, the cute but evil critters get much more than they anticipated! Overall, a wonderfully rendered and breathtaking Dutch film that can be enjoyed by anyone since it has no dialog.

Short film Big Buck Bunny (2008) – Open Community Movie Comparable With Pixar’s Very Best Films

Truly a very good all out effort to incorporate the open-source (or better: open-movie) community with Hollywood CGI standards. Qualitywise characters, environments and storyline are comparable with the best short-movies Pixar has made. You gotta see this one!

Blender Foundation clearly found a way to produce quality shorts in a very different way than the Pixars and Dreamworks produce theirs: with a coreteam of seven, their work supported by hundreds, maybe thousands of artists all over the world who make props, backgrounds etc. and submit them through the net.

Directed by Sacha Goedegebure.

Short film Codehunters (2006) – An Intense Dystopic Vision of the Future

Fluid, desaturated visuals complement a brief glimpse of an intense dystopic vision. If only the original brief to develop it as a series hadn’t changed into it being a wordless promo short for MTV Asia.

Mac’n’Cheese (2011) – short film that deals with the panic

Plot:

When you find yourself running scared and running out of energy, there’s only a few options left to outrun your opponent through the southern desert. Stopping at nothing, watch these two guys wear each other out and rip through boundaries hitherto unbroken. Enjoy the ride! This two minute animation took about five months to make!

Short film Mac’n’Cheese (2011) – Stylish and Technically Stunning Movie

Somehow somebody has managed to write a plot summary for this film’s IMDb page which spills over into 3 or 4 lines, which even puts windbag like me to shame since there is barely enough plot here to even get a few words together. Basically a very skinny guy is being chased by a massive brute of a guy and their chase takes them over the roofs of vehicles, through tunnels and all manner of obstacles as their superhuman pursuit takes place. See – no real plot to speak of and the film throws us right into the middle of this chase. It is very cartoony in tone since the characters are indestructible and, with the aid of a poorly judged moment of drug use in the film, they have superhuman speed too. There is an aspect of the narrative that works well right at the end, where you get some understanding of what is going on – I found this amusing and perfectly fine, but really this is all that there is in terms of plot. It really doesn’t matter though because most of the film is really about the animation – and not just the technical aspect of ‘look what we can do, professor’ but also the really impressive style and delivery of it. The delivery of the two characters is done with great technical resources but the style in which they are shown is what won me over – with good movement but also nice touches of style in how they are shown. It ends with a nice little joke that continues into the credits and I thought was a nice touch, but ultimately this is a film to show off animation ability and style, and in that regard it works well. – bob the moo

The Butterfly Effect (2012)

Short Film The Butterfly Effect (2012) – When Going For A bottle of Milk Turns into Mayhem

An ordinary looking guy wakes up one morning feeling the worse for wear and realizes he’s run out of milk. As he drags himself out of the house to go and buy some, an extraordinary sequence of events draws him into a journey of mayhem on the streets of San Francisco. The animation is of a very high quality but at times it does feel like it is showing off and I would have liked a bit more humor or action because often it just feels like spectacle and not much else. Of course we have plenty of blockbusters that show us that this works as a business model so it is not a huge deal and I guess at only 2 or 3 minutes it is hard not to like it for what it is.

The Butterfly Effect is an action-packed short animated “tale of mayhem” written and directed by London-based Dan Sumich of Passion Pictures

One Rat Short (2006) – Masterpiece of style, narrative and direction

City rat versus Lab Rats in “One Rat Short” (2006)

Short Film One Rat Short follows the city rat in a strange world of white laboratory rats. Each rat has a bar code attached. It is clearly some type of experimental laboratory, where the rats are administered various substances and their performance measured! A typical town rat follows a cheese puff wrapper across the roof tops in a big city. By accident, the rat falls into some weird fully automated lab filled with white lab rats. The new rat is captured but with the intervention of the same wrapper, he is able to try to make his escape.

Short Film One Rat Short (2006) – Masterpiece of style, narrative and direction

It looks great–not too derivative, not too abstract or “cartoony,” and definitely NOT like CGI. The surfaces are so real (fur, metal, glass) you feel like you can touch them, the contrasts between dark and light are expertly used, and the scene where the Cheeto is crushed in slow motion is simply beautiful. The music was perfectly suited to the action, almost another character in itself. And on top of it all, it has fast-paced suspense and a touching love story, with the right ending for a change (something far too many films featuring humans fail at).

Academy Award Nominated Short Film.

Gulliver’s Travels (1939)

Gulliver’s Travels (1939) – Sailor washes ashore on Lilliput and attempts to prevent war!

Gulliver’s Travels (1939) – Gulliver washes ashore on Lilliput and attempts to prevent war between that tiny kingdom and its equally-miniscule rival, Blefiscu, as well as smooth the way for the romance between the Princess and Prince of the opposing lands. In this he is alternately aided and hampered by the Lilliputian town crier and general fussbudget, Gabby. A life-threatening situation develops when the bumbling trio of Blefiscu spies, Sneak, Snoop, and Snitch, manage to steal Gulliver’s pistol. This animated classic is based on the classic novel by Jonathan Swift (with a little nod to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet).

Why You Should Watch Gulliver’s Travels Online?

Watch Gulliver’s Travels because the story behind this now-classic film is itself an amazing story. It’s the tale of a truly remarkable journey: one that spanned more than 1,200 miles, involved the work of 678 artists who created 665,280 drawings using 16 tons of paper, 49,000 pencils and 12 tons of paint on a half million cells; and all while struggling to meet a seemingly impossible deadline. In December 1939, Gulliver’s Travels opened to great fanfare in theaters in Miami and New York. The crowd in Miami was so large that it filled both the Sheridan and Colony Theaters, while in New York, Gulliver’s Travels broke box office records in its first two weeks at the 3,664-seat Paramount Theater.fleischerstudios

Ruin (2011)

Lone Post-Apocalyptic Explorer Race A Robotic Drone

Ruin (2011) – In a future where cities have crumbled and been reclaimed by nature we join a lone man exploring the ruins of the company Haven Nanosystems. Recovering a locked container he seems to have found what he was looking for, which is information relating to the quarantined Facility B. Unfortunately just as located by a robotic drone and the race to escape is on.

“Ruin” barely looks animated. Aside from the few close-ups of the hero’s face and hands, he looks like a real person—largely because he’s moving so fast and is so close to getting killed at any second that there’s not much time to think about how he and everything around him is computer-generated. (Besides, most live-action blockbusters these days have CGI-heavy action sequences anyway.) “Ruin” is a polished spectacle, putting the viewer in the place of a desperate man who’s in mortal peril—and in constant, rapid motion. While the film shows nothing of Ball’s skill with actors, dialogue, or storytelling, it does show a rare grasp of action choreography and effects. Once the film kicks into gear, it rockets off, hugging every curve tightly.

Wes Ball from OddBall Animation has completed the RUIN project, a stereo short he has been working on for six months. A graduate of Florida State film school, Ball has had a solid background of live action. In fact, his final year thesis film ended up being his first animated film, in fact the school’s first animated film project. Wes Ball went straight into working for himself after he left film school and had been using NewTek LightWave, and Luxology’s modo ever since. Wes Ball is known for his work on The Maze Runner (2014), Beginners (2010) and A Work in Progress (2002).
